Somali Diaspora Support Launches New Office at SONSA Headquarters in Zoobe

Mogadishu, Somalia — April 26, 2026

Somali Diaspora Support (SDS) launched its new office on April 26, 2026, marking an important step in the organization’s efforts to connect, support, and serve members of the Somali diaspora in Somalia and abroad.

The SDS office is located inside the SONSA Headquarters building in Zoobe, Mogadishu. As a proud partner of the Somalia Non-State Actors (SONSA), SDS will use the office as a practical base for member support, coordination, community engagement, and the delivery of services that help Somalis returning home or reconnecting with their country.

The office launch reflects SDS’s commitment to making the transition home more supported and manageable. Many members of the diaspora face challenges when returning to Somalia or rebuilding their lives after arrival, including finding employment, accessing healthcare, understanding legal requirements, continuing education, and connecting with trusted local networks. SDS was established to help address these challenges through a single, coordinated platform.

SDS connects diaspora members with practical support and trusted services, including employment assistance, health services, legal aid, education support, youth training, social support, and digital empowerment. Through its membership model, the organization aims to make these services easier to access while ensuring that members are connected to real people and local networks.

The new office at SONSA Headquarters provides SDS with a central location in Mogadishu from which to engage with members, partners, and community stakeholders. It also strengthens the collaboration between SDS and SONSA, whose partnership is rooted in supporting Somalis returning home and rebuilding across the diaspora.

For SDS, the office is more than a physical location. It is a place where diaspora members can seek guidance, connect with support, and find pathways to opportunities in Somalia. It is also a space for building relationships and strengthening the connection between the diaspora and the communities to which they belong.

The launch comes as Somali diaspora members continue to contribute to Somalia’s social and economic development through skills, experience, investment, and community engagement. By providing practical support and helping members navigate their return or reconnection journey, SDS seeks to make diaspora engagement more meaningful and effective.

Located in the SONSA Headquarters building in Zoobe, the SDS office will serve as a hub for support, partnership, and connection. The organization looks forward to working with diaspora members, youth, community organizations, service providers, and other stakeholders to build stronger links between Somalis at home and abroad.

The opening of the office marks a new chapter for Somali Diaspora Support. Through its partnership with SONSA and its growing range of services, SDS is working toward a future in which returning home or staying connected to Somalia does not mean starting from zero.
