Somali Diaspora Support (SDS) had the pleasure of visiting the office of Women in International Security Horn of Africa (WIIS-HoA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the visit, SDS Deputy Executive Mohamed Hassan Muse met with Fauziya Ali, Founder and President of WIIS-HoA. The meeting provided an opportunity for a valuable exchange on shared priorities and possible areas of cooperation between the two organizations.

The discussion covered collaboration, youth empowerment, peace and security, artificial intelligence, and the strengthening of civil society across the Horn of Africa. The conversation highlighted the importance of partnerships that bring together diverse expertise, encourage knowledge-sharing, and support inclusive approaches to regional challenges.

WIIS-HoA is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Kenya. It works to advance peace, security, and human rights in the Horn of Africa by promoting women’s leadership, gender equity in peacebuilding, professional development, and human-security approaches.

The organization emphasizes the importance of networking for peace and security, innovation and knowledge-sharing, sustainable peace, and collaboration with civil society, governments, academic institutions, and other partners. These priorities provide valuable opportunities for engagement with organizations such as SDS.

Youth empowerment was also an important area of discussion. Young people across the Horn of Africa have an essential role to play in peacebuilding, civic participation, innovation, and community development. Supporting youth with skills, knowledge, and meaningful opportunities is critical to building peaceful and resilient societies.

The meeting also explored the growing importance of artificial intelligence and technology. Responsible use of AI can support education, improve access to information, strengthen civil society initiatives, and create new opportunities for young people. Continued dialogue is important to ensure that technological progress is inclusive and benefits communities across the region.

Peace and security require cooperation across borders and sectors. By working together, civil society organizations can contribute to stronger networks, more inclusive decision-making, and initiatives that promote human security and lasting peace.
